Padang is the capital city of West Sumatera province, lies on the western coast of Sumatera island in Indonesia. West Sumatera is the home for the Minangkabau people, well known as great treaders all around Indonesia, and Mentawai people. Total area of West Sumatera is 42,297.30 km² and Padang itself is 694.96 km². Nasi Padang and Rendang are the most famous cuisine from this area, and currently already wide spreadth all over the world.
Padang and West Sumatera offer many tourist attractions as the geographic conditions are located between highlands and the ocean. Therefore, there are tropical forests, mountains, volcanos, lakes, valleys, rivers & waterfalls in the highlands, the fauna and flora, and the beaches.
As they have a lot of great natural attractions, geographical condition that lies on a belt of volcanic and seismic activity known as the "Pacific Ring of Fire," gives consequence of potentials of natural disasters. Earthquakes, landslides, volcano eruption, and tsunami should be aware of. Most recent evidence was the 7.9 in Richter scale earthquakes on 30th September 2009. Not to be feared of, but as a lesson learnt for all of us to be wiser and give more awareness to our environment.

TAPLAU (TAPI LAUIK/PADANG BEACH)
Padang is a coastal city, the west side of city is faced directly to Indian Ocean. Taplau is acronym from Tapi-Lauik means coast/sea front. The beach is the favorite place for local people to be visited due to the location which is just at the side of Padang, especially at sunset till night. There are many food stalls provide visitor with hot snacks and drinks.
MALINKUNDANG BEACH
Malinkundang is a popular folktale/legend in Indonesia. The myth tells about an ungrateful son who had been cursed by his mother after being ashamed recognize his poor mother when he already being rich. This story is being associated with a rock formation that looked like a man kneeling on a boat at Air Manis beach near Padang.

Jam Gadang
Jam Gadang means "huge clock", a clock tower with traditional Minangkabau roof on the apex. It is one of landmark of Indonesia and many's the time to be compared with other world's clock tower like England's Big Ben, Italy's Pisa, India's Rajabai, Switzerlands' Zytglogge, and Russian's Spasskaya.
Located at the center-hearth of Bukittinggi, next to House of Bung Hatta (the first Vice President of Indonesia), and Pasar Atas (famous traditional market).
Fee: IDR 50,000 - short tour inside Jam Gadang
Tips: There are many horse carriage rides (andong) around Jam Gadang, ensure you ask the rate prior to enjoy the service.
